BIG STORIES.
SHORT DISCLAIMERS.
Idiot Index is an independent editorial magazine about the strange price differences between branded products, sourcing channels, components and everyday goods.
WE PUBLISH INTERESTING LEADS.
We don't require every story to become a forensic investigation before it can be fun. This first issue is built from supplied research notes and classic parts-bin tales. The notes are leads, not independently authenticated manufacturer statements.
THE INDEX IS A PRICE-TIER RATIO.
Where figures exist, the Idiot Index uses the midpoint of the supplied approximate premium price tier divided by the midpoint of the supplied approximate alternative tier (or the single quoted boundary if the range is open). It is a deliberately rough editorial comparison, not a live quote or manufacturer's actual cost markup. For ingredient/DIY and assembly/component stories it is not a like-for-like product comparison.
WE NAME THE TWIST.
Parts-bin lead means a shared-part claim. Component reveal means the alternative may be one internal piece of a larger assembly. Shared specification and spec-swap are about performance or physical standards, not necessarily the same item. Ingredient/DIY maths compares the economics of making or sourcing materials. The source notes could be wrong or apply to different years and versions.
WE DON'T WANT YOU BUYING THE WRONG BRAKES.
Before buying, confirm exact fitment, dimensions, supplier numbers, certifications, warranty and seller legitimacy. Don't treat a magazine story as technical installation advice, especially for brakes, steering, safety equipment, mains electricity, batteries or medical applications.
THE MORE YOU FIND, THE BETTER IT GETS.
We welcome corrections, contrary examples, confirmed cross-references and outrageous new comparisons. Make the magazine smarter without making it boring.
