THE CASE FILE

THE BIT THEY DIDN'T PUT ON THE BOX.

Horsepower is expensive. Alternators need not be.

Ferrari pulled the standard Denso alternator from premium high-trim Alfa Romeos for its mid-engine V8. Sourced from a Ferrari catalog, the unit is roughly £700–$900; sourced through standard Alfa Romeo or Denso industrial distributors, it is £150–£200.

SO WHAT'S THE CATCH?

Pulley, mounting, connections and charging control must match.

“The interesting bit isn't the badge. It's what happens when you search for the part behind it.”

THE INTERNET DETECTIVE'S CHECKLIST

Look for complete part numbers and revisions, make sure you're comparing the same quantity, and check the exact model/application. That's especially important with electrical, braking, steering, battery and other safety-related components.

STILL CURIOUS?

MORE TRICKS.
